GOVERNOR WIKE COMMISSIONS ABONNEMA –OBONNOMA ROAD


The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike commissioned the Abonnema- Obonoma road, today, in the Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State as part of his projects executed during his 100 days in office.
Governor Wike expressed gratitude to God for enabling him fulfill his campaign promises and thanked the residents of Abonnema- Obonoma community for supporting the project from start to finish.
According to the Gov Wike, , the contractor promised to complete the road construction before one hundred days of his administration if mobilized with funds and is happy that the contractor kept to his promise.
His words: “We promised that if we get your mandate, we will do everything to complete this project. The contractor assured us that if mobilized, the project will be completed before my 100 days in office. As you can see, he has done that. I thank the people and the leaders of Abonnema – Obonoma for supporting the contractor to complete the project. After all, there are projects that have been abandoned in some communities because the contractors did not get the support of the residents. I reassure you that I will fulfill whatever promise I made. "Please continue to support us with your prayers because our administration is anchored on God. “
Speaking earlier, the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Akuku Toru Local Government Area, Hon. Torukwein Odimabo, described the occasion as a historic fulfillment of electioneering campaign promises.
The Local Government Council boss appealed for more developmental projects as platforms for providing peace, describing Governor Wike’s administration as “a dazzling light to the people.”
Also speaking, the Secretary of Akuku Toru Local Government Traditional Rulers Council of Chiefs, Chief S.A. Gabriel Whyte, JP, lauded Governor Wike for raising the hopes of communities in the area.
The traditional ruler reminded Governor Wike not to forget the rehabilitation of the Abonnema General Hospital, the repairs of the Trans-Kalabari road and the Sand filling of the Abonnema and neighboring communities in the area.
The Permanent Secretary of Works, Dr. Paulinus Nwankwoala, recalled that the project, which was awarded three years ago by the last administration, was abandoned because of poor funding.
The permanent secretary said the Abonnema- Obonoma road is 3.15km long, while its bridge section (Alice Okoto Bridge) is 20 meters long.
