Conference Overview
The Rivers Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church summit on Lifestyle and Health will take place in Port Harcourt(SDA church Mile3 diobu) as it is the first edition of its kind, which focused on Lifestyle as Primary Health Care. The theme focuses on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) with specific emphasis on preventive lifestyle measures and interventions throughout the cycle of life.
There will be a special emphasis on starting with the very young and the need for being agents of change and architects of choice in a pervasive environment of profit-driven junk food industries and advertising. Research showing excellent outcomes with such initiatives in a cross section of societies will be highlighted by Prof. Arthur Nwafor, Professor of Exercise Physiology at the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Port Harcourt. He will explore the challenges of NCDs and the need for access to life-changing health information through exercising.
Dr. Hekerem,a fore most dental surgeon/Dentist will share exciting insights and applications from every day life to the prevention of NCDs.
Dr S.A.T. Amukele, in the fore front of promoting natural foods as remedies as an important tool in health, wellness and gospel will address vital aspects of engaging the community in battle with the health challenges of today.
Dr Dave M. Nyekwere, a seasoned pastor of the seventh day adventist church will expand more on adventistism and Healing ministry
Dr N. Enyindah, Consultant NeuroPsychiatrist and Psychologist will talk to us on mental health and wellness, addictions with a view to preventing Non communicable diseases.
Despite important strides in containing and controlling tobacco use and sedentary lifestyle through the Framework Convention for Tobacco Control and exercising, smoking, obesity, sedentary lifestyle remains the major contributing factors to the pandemic of NCDs. Fresh updates and perspectives on this huge challenge will be shared. Most importantly, participants will be equipped and inspired to tackle these issues with renewed vigor.
Exciting original research in the field of nutrition as well as various plant-based and other diets will be reviewed. Dr. S.A.T. Amukele . The data will be fresh, exciting, informative and relevant to the prevention of NCDs.
Mental and emotional health, poised to be leading challenges for whole-person wellness have a special emphasis in this conference. Addictions and depression will have specific break out sessions.
How do administrators, educators and health professionals from different disciplines relate to the challenge of preventing NCDs? The breakouts will address these questions including an occupational health viewpoint.
Useful tools and interventions for use in the community/local church congregation will be show-cased , some for the first time on this level!
These are just some of the topics and a few of the speakers making up the pot pourri of plenary and breakout sessions of the Conference on Lifestyle and Health.
