Chibok girls go to school

The over 30 Chibok girls in two buses driven into  a military barrack in Maiduguri, Borno State capital yesterday were on their way to enrol in schools outside the state, a government official said.
Excitement greeted reports in some online media of purported rescued of some kidnapped schoolgirls yesterday in Maiduguri  as  residents celebrated in most parts of the city.
Military sources said over 30 girls in two 18 seater buses were brought to Maimalari barracks located at the outskirts of the city at noon, fuelling speculation parts of the 200 Chibok schools abducted by Boko Haram on April 14 have been rescued.

However, a government official from Chibok said “the story was untrue,” maintaining that the over 30 girls seen in buses at Maimalari barracks were those who escaped few days after they were captured by the insurgents in April.
“Government is actually taking them to school outside the state for them to continue their education. They were in the barrack to give them protection and take off with military escorts,” the source, a very senior official who did not want to be named, told Daily Sun.
Interestingly, two buses arrived the Maiduguri Government House at about 5.30pm with military escorts . The two 18 seater buses with registration number Abuja BH750 BWL and  BORNO MGM 33 XA carried over 30 girls.
Daily Sun was able to identify five of the girls who were among those who escaped from the Boko Haram camp and brought to Maiduguri early May. All the girls were seen with their bags and boxes and had exhanged pleasantries with journalists.
Gov Kashim Shettima had promised the escapee schoolgirls they will continue their education which was disrupted by the April 14 Boko Haram attack in school outside the state.
