Emerging reports
from Marte District, Borno State, indicate that Boko Haram gunmen
attacked the villages of Durwa and Maforo on Sunday, killing and
slaughtering 10 civilians.
Usman Ari, a resident of Durwa,
claimed that the gunmen arrived on motorcycles and rounded up a number
of people, singling out six recent arrivals from Krenuwa village who had
apparently escaped a bloody Boko Haram raid a month ago.
Citing continued violence in the area, Ari vowed to leave Durwa along
with others in search of a safer environment in the Borno State
capital, Maiduguri.
Both villages, Durwa and Maforo, are located in the Marte district,
an area that the government regained control of earlier this year after
losing it to insurgents late last year.
Borno State is currently under a state of emergency.
